Media like phosguard, pelleted carbon, and matrix are excellent choices. Directions: Rinse before use. Filter socks are designed to be used inside a sump or refugium with a mounting bracket or hanging mechanism. Simply place filter sock in path of drain water. Allow water that enters the sump to fall directly into filter sock. Keep the plastic filter sock ring below the top edge of your sump to prevent overflow when filter sock reaches capacity. Filter socks are reusable. Turn sock inside-out and thoroughly rinse with a garden hose. For best results use a high-pressure water nozzle. Rinsing should be performed when filter sock turns brown or when water overflows. Frequent rinsing helps to achieve optimal water quality. Important: First time use of a brand new filter sock may cause increased protein skimming. Normal protein skimming function should resume within 24 hours.
