Anyone else been dreaming about the, soft serve watermelon ice cream in a watermelon slice, that’s been all over Instagram recently? Then felt extremely disappointed that, like always, it was only in the US? Well, it’s time to do a happy dance! As the wonderful Dominique Ansel Bakery in London now serve it!
Are you wondering where you’ve heard that name before? If you are a foodie, you will know that he was the creator of the original Cronut. The Cronut had people queuing up down the street just to get their hands on them. There was even a purchase limit of 2 per customer. Now, I’m ashamed to admit it, I have never tried one. But, I have tried the copycat ones. Which were extremely tasty.
Anyway, let’s get back to the Watermelon Ice Cream! When I heard that it was available in London. I rearranged my plans and went as soon as I was able to. I was not disappointed. I went at the start of the great British heatwave. So, the timing was excellent.
What are the first things you think of when you think of watermelon? Light, refreshing, hydrating, sweet and delicious. Yep me too. They were the exact same thoughts I had when I put the first bite of soft serve watermelon ice cream in my mouth. So, not only does it look impressive. It tastes impressive too. Going into this. I didn’t think the ice cream would taste as much of watermelon as it did. I was extremely wrong. It tastes just like watermelon but creamier.
The only thing that lets it down. Is the fact that there is not enough soft serve ice cream. I would have preferred more. However, the slice of watermelon made up for that. I did eat it whilst I was walking. Which was awkward. But, that didn’t stop me from enjoying it.
Would I recommend it? Yes, 100%! It was expensive for an ice cream. I’m talking about £6.50. Which puts it in the ‘treat yourself’ category.
Now, if you are not in London, the Dominique Ansel Bakery is very close to Victoria train station. Which makes for an easy detour if you are having a London day trip. If you can’t make it to London. I have found a few watermelon ice cream recipes so you can DIY it. Ok, it’s not going to be soft serve, but if it tastes similar you’ll be in for a treat.
